Nicole SommerSenior Associate
Nicole Sommer is a senior associate in our commercial litigation and dispute resolution team. She heads our planning and environment practice. Nicole joined us in 2014 from a leading interstate planning and environment practice and has a background as in-house counsel in NSW and Victorian State Government.
Nicole practises in planning and environmental law, conduct matters and administrative law. She regularly appears in the Resource Management and Planning Appeals Tribunal, the Tasmanian Planning Commission and the Property Agents Tribunal. Nicole advises local government clients on a broad range of administrative matters, including planning, highways, statutory interpretation, governance and right to information. She assists private clients and developers with the full range of statutory approvals, appeals processes and working with regulators for large and small developments.
Nicole is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia's Tasmanian Division Committee and is chair of its policy sub-committee. Nicole is also the Tasmanian co-convenor for Australian Lawyers for Human Rights and is undertaking a Master of Environmental Management at the University of Tasmania, with a focus on development decision-making.
Nicole is published in the Australian Environment Review, the Australasian Journal of Natural Resources Law and Policy and is a regular contributor to PIA’s Planning News publication. She has presented at the Engineers Australia 2010 conference and has presented seminars to Sustainable Business Australia, Australian Land and Groundwater Association, Planning Institute of Australia, the Local Government Association of Tasmania, Legalwise, and the Association of Corporate Counsel Australia.
