Amelia Higgs is an Associate in our family law group.
Amelia is experienced in a wide range of family and relationship law matters including:
- Parenting disputes (including Recovery applications, and Hague Convention child abduction matters);
- Matrimonial and de facto property settlements;
- Child support;
- Binding Financial Agreements; and
As a solutions-focussed lawyer, Amelia aims to resolve matters without the need for contested litigation, however she is a confident court advocate and regularly appears in the Federal Circuit Court and Family Court. She has a reputation for developing strong client relationships and works collaboratively, where appropriate, with other professionals such as financial planners, psychologists, and accountants to deliver outcomes which are tailored to the individual client’s needs and circumstances.
Amelia is the current Chair of the Family Law Pathways Network Steering Committee, and sits as a member of the Equal Opportunity and Employment Committee of the Law Society of Tasmania, and the UTAS School of Law Teaching and Learning Committee. She is also a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, and the Family Law Practitioners Association of Tasmania. She was a joint recipient of the Law Society's 2017 award for Young Lawyer of the Year.
