Steve Knight is the chairman of our board and a principal in our insurance litigation and dispute resolution department. He is a leading insurance litigation lawyer.
Steve's practice covers all aspects of insurance law. He acts for, and advises, a wide range of insurers and insured with respect to claims and policy coverage disputes. He has a focus on serious industrial accidents, fire claims, marine claims and casualties, product liability and public liability claims, professional indemnity matters, and fraud.
Steve also advises in relation to significant property damage claims, including damage to buildings and infrastructure; losses and damage due to explosion; claims arising out of chemical and dust exposure; and claims involving fatalities.
He advises in relation to related matters such as policy interpretation, professional disciplinary matters, and with respect to environmental and workplace prosecutions.
Steve is the only Tasmanian to have been elected National President of the Australian Insurance Law Association, and the only Tasmanian to be awarded life membership of that association. He is also the Tasmanian representative on the National Insurance Lawyers Group of the Law Council of Australia. He is Chairman of Australian Wooden Boat Festival, and a keen yachtsman.
Steve was awarded a medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Australia Day Honours List in 2019 for his services to the community and in particular with respect to the Australian Wooden Boat Festival.
