Mandatory Data Breach Notification Scheme: commencing 22 February 2018Suzette Pullinger Posted 11 September 2017
What: The Privacy Amendment (Notifiable Data Breaches) Act 2017 amends the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and requires entities to:
- Conduct an assessment of potential data breaches; and
- Notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) and affected individuals if there has been an eligible data breach.
When: commences 22 February 2018
Who does it apply to: all businesses, government agencies and other agencies covered by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)
What do I need to do? Develop a data breach response plan to be operational from 22 February 2018.
